Reflexology

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a traditional healing art originating in Asia some 3000 years ago. It is based on the principle that the soles of the feet reflect a map of the body and that each point or ‘reflex’ of the foot corresponds with different organs and systems.

By stimulating these reflex points (essentially nerve endings) and applying compression massage this complimentary therapy can target specific areas in the body, encouraging them to function more efficiently.

A reflexology treatment involves sitting or lying while a therapist applies pressure to certain areas on the feet. Its aim is to unblock energy pathways and thus bring the body back into balance so it can heal itself. The pressure point massage can also be applied to the hands and the ears.

The results are relieved stress and tension and improved health and wellbeing. It is also commonly used as an alternative aid to boost fertility and conception, although this is not scientifically proven.

Benefits of reflexology include:

Increased energy/vitality
Boosted circulation
Deep relaxation
Detoxification
